Remembrance Sunday is 8 November 2026. St Albans parades from St Peter's Street at 10.30am for the 10.50am service; Harpenden moves off at 10.35am.

Remembrance Sunday falls on Sunday 8 November 2026. In St Albans the Mayor leads a parade along St Peter’s Street to the War Memorial outside St Peter’s Church, where the service starts at 10.50am and the two-minute silence is at 11am. That timing has held for years and is what the district council published for 2025; the 2026 notice is due in late October. Harpenden Town Council has already confirmed its 2026 parade: it moves off from Rothamsted Park at 10.35am for the 10.50am service at the War Memorial on Church Green.

St Albans: how the morning runs

The council’s notice for 2025 set out the pattern. The Mayor of St Albans City and District leads “the annual event”, and the parade “will walk along St Peter’s Street to the War Memorial near St Peter’s Church” from 10.30am. The service at the memorial begins at 10.50am; a bugler sounds the Last Post before the two-minute silence at 11am, and “after the National Anthem is sung, there will be a procession to a saluting stand”. Hundreds gathered at the memorial in 2025 (Residents turn out in force, St Albans City and District Council, 10 November 2025).

In earlier years the council’s notices described the parade as including the Royal British Legion, air, sea and army cadets, the Guiding and Scout movements, the police and other uniformed services, with readings from leaders of the Jewish, Muslim and Christian communities and wreaths from the Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, the MP for St Albans and the emergency services (Remembrance Sunday in St Albans, St Albans City and District Council).

The council has not yet published the 2026 notice or any road closure order for St Peter’s Street. Its notice came out on 28 October last year. When it does, we will add the closure times and the form-up point.

Harpenden: confirmed for 8 November 2026

Harpenden Town Council’s listing is dated 8 November 2026 and gives the two times that matter: the parade moves off from Rothamsted Park at 10.35am, and the service at the War Memorial on Church Green starts at 10.50am. The Mayor lays a wreath on behalf of the town. The listing does not yet give a form-up time in the park or a road closure; in previous years the council’s listings said the parade formed up from 10.15am. Parking for the morning is on our parking page: the town council’s Lydekker car park is free on Sundays.

Two weeks earlier, on Saturday 24 October at 11am, the Royal British Legion holds its ceremony at the same memorial to open the Field of Remembrance and launch the Poppy Appeal.

The villages

Redbourn, Wheathampstead, London Colney, Sandridge and Colney Heath each hold a service at their own memorial, organised by the parish council or the church. None had published 2026 times when we checked on 25 September; most appear in the parish newsletters in late October, and we will add them here.

Armistice Day, Wednesday 11 November

The two-minute silence at 11am on Wednesday 11 November is observed at the St Albans and Harpenden memorials and in the cathedral. Neither council had published an Armistice Day event for 2026 at the time of writing.
